Staring into the sky of twinkling lights, an old, weather-worn picnic table that has seen better-days supports my six-foot frame as I patiently lie on my back in healthy wonder and delightful anticipation.
Gleaming through the sky is a flash of light ripping through a New Jersey
summer sky. A shooting-star is exactly what I expected and hoped to see. I jump for joy like a little-kid that found a dollar on the ground outside a candy-store.
I had two questions for God that early August pre-dawn morning and I asked God if the answer is “yes” to my questions please show me a shooting-star.
Within a few peaceful moments the first star fell out of the sky. I asked for another just for fun. Eight minutes later another dash of bright moving light flashed across the quiet sky. I believe I got a yes to my two-part question.
A month goes by and I decide to hone-in and be more specific with my desired question.
Once again, I ask God to show me a shooting-star if the answer is “yes” to my very specific question. Within a few minutes the vast September sky produces a bright star traveling at lightning speed as I joyfully receive the answer to my laser-sharp, focused question.
It is almost too good to be true. I was outside for only about ten tranquil minutes when God answered my question. I feel compelled to ask God if that shooting-star was specifically for me and if so to please show me another one within the next seven minutes. Nothing happens so I head into my house and on the eighth minute with my hand on the door-handle, at the corner of my eye, shooting over the hilly treetops a fast moving beaming star falls from the early morning black sky.
I knew it was for me. I believe God is telling me I will answer your questions and lead you but do not put a time-limit on Me I will show you things on My clock and I believe that’s why the shooting-star was delivered to my eyes eight minutes later and not seven minutes later as requested for a 4:22 AM sky-lighting display. Plus eight is the Biblical number for “New Beginnings.”
God will reveal things to us when we trust Him and when we ask with full faith. Sometimes we do not know the answers but God sure does and He is our Helper isn’t He? The Bible says He is.
Psalm 121:1-2 says “I lift up my eyes to the mountains-where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
That scripture attests He is our Helper and He can help us get answers we can not find them on our own.
Perhaps when He created the stars He made four extra ones just for me not only for me to relish in the awe and beauty of these natural “God-made” fireworks that I enjoy seeing but to let me know everything is going to be “ok” and He’s got my back. Allow me to ask my readers, “Do you know who’s got your back?”
What a beautiful illustration of your faith and an important reminder that God truly hears All of our heart crys and HE will answer. Sometimes we think God doesn’t hear us if we don’t receive an answer quickly but could it be we simply stop listening????
Thank you Tim for sharing your heart. You are a tremendous inspiration.
Wow! Thanks for the awesome comment Lisa. I find it encouraging!
